Before putting your house on the market there are a few simple things you can do to make your home stand out from the rest.
1. Throw away things that you have been putting off. Whether it is a dingy chair or old magazines throw it away.

2.  Remove all clutter from kitchen and bathroom counters.  If you don’t use an item everyday find a place to store it out of sight.

3.  Hide all personal items; jewelry, check books, bank statements, prescriptions, birth certificates, etc.

4.  Adjust room furniture so the room feels as open as possible and invites people to walk into the room.

5.  Make sure all light bulbs work and windows are washed—this will make the home feel bright and inviting.

6.  Walk the outside of your home and make sure all trash is picked up, bushes are trimmed, weeds are pulled-this is the first impression a buyer gets when they go to view your home.  If it looks bad on the outside, they assume it looks as bad on the inside.

7.  Restrict the number of knick knacks and family photos.  Your goal is to make the room feel open and not so personal…they need to be able to envision themselves living in the home.

8.  Wipe down walls, baseboards and door handles.  If someone gets turned off by dirt and grime you more than likely will lose them as soon as they walk in.

These 8 steps will get your home ready to sell before you even have to call an agent to list.  Remember that not everyone sees your home the way you do.  Invite a neighbor offer and ask them how your home makes them feel.  Do they feel overwhelmed?  If you spend money in this process it will come back to you when you sell because more than likely your home will sell faster than the neighbor who didn’t take the time to stage their home.  If you want a free consultation give us a call!
