With the residents of Fishers and the surrounding Indianapolis area coming out of a long, cold winter, and spring weather making an appearance last week to ring in St. Patrick’s Day, you may be wondering what spring maintenance you can do around your house to make sure things are in tip top shape after winter!  There are several things you can do to get your home ready for spring.  Here are just a few!

Replace your furnace filter-

Your filter should be checked at least once a month in order to increase its efficiency.  Whether you need to change or just clean your filter, making sure this is done will save you time and money in the long run.

Check Smoke Alarms-

Make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are clean and working.  Taking them apart and cleaning dust out will help contribute to their best use!

Water Heater-

Make sure and do a check around the base of your water heater looking for rust or leaking.  If your water heater is more than 5 years old, you should be checking regularly for any leakage or rusting, and if so, it needs to be replaced.

Roof Damage-

Check for any roof damage.  Especially after the brutal ice storm we had this winter.  Any cracked or broken shingles, or pooling of water are a good sign the roof may need repaired.

Kitchen Exhaust-

Keeping the kitchen exhaust hood and air filter clean will help prevent fires on the stove.  Making sure to clean the grease that accumulates from cooking is a definite must do!
