The residents of Fishers have again visited the idea of making the town of Fishers a city.  This idea was first visited in 1998, but was voted against.

Since that time in 1998, the population of Fishers has grown substantially with experts saying Fishers will continue to grow.  With the increase in population, the interest and support of becoming a city has also increased.  A political action committee, City Yes, has been formed and is actively seeking signatures for their petition.  Currently, they have roughly half of the needed signatures to bring this to ballot.

“The rapid growth of Fishers these past few years demands greater accountability of local government to taxpayers.  Under a city government system, voters would have much greater influence.  Right now, all the power in Fishers is vested in seven people, the Town Council, plus the officials and committees they control.  A lot of people are not being heard. We believe the people of Fishers deserve better,” said the City Yes website.

One question we have been asked is the impact of Fishers becoming a city will have on the Real Estate market.  Our answer is: as long as Fishers continues to have some of the top schools and stays fundamentally sound, it shouldn't impact it what-so-ever.
