The gutters main function is to carry rainwater away from a home. It's essential to keep gutters clear of debris so they can help keep a home’s basement from flooding, protect the home’s foundation from long-term, structural damage, and keep the roof in great shape. In other words, cleaning your gutters should be at the top of your fall "to do" list. Thankfully, gutter cleaning can be a do-it-yourself job.

Gutter cleaning can be done in 4 easy steps, cleanly explained in this 4-minute video from Lowe’s.

  1. Tools needed: a ladder, a bucket, a hose, and a trowel.
  2. Remove debris from the gutter, using the trowel for hard-to-reach places
  3. Flood the gutters with the hose and spray w/ attachment
  4. Make sure downspouts drain properly, checking for clogs

Gutter maintenance should be done twice a year and the Lowe’s video offers helpful safety tips, too.  Of course, if you’re uncomfortable on a ladder, or prefer to hire a professional, let The Evleo Team of Keller Williams Realty know.  We have some great connections with companies that can help.
